El centro de reciclaje de (IZW) Informations-Zentrum Weissblech ha llevado a cabo durante los últimos diez años investigaciones sobre las maneras de optimizar los canales de reciclaje en el sector comercial. Y con gran éxito. El porcentaje de reciclaje total de los materiales de embalaje de acero, registrado en diferentes fuentes y sistemas, ha llegado a una constante de 80% por ciento. Cada año, alrededor de 708.000 toneladas de materiales de embalaje de acero se utilizan en Alemania. 30.000 toneladas entran nuevamente a la producción de materiales de envase para el sector alimenticio alemán. Estas cantidades deben ser posteriormente recicladas de una manera que sea favorable al medio ambiente y a la economía. Aquí es adonde interviene el centro de reciclaje IZW que actúa como una interface dinámica entre los consumidores principales de los materiales de embalaje de acero y los sistemas relevantes de la recolección, tales como el sistema Deutschland AG (DS) de Duales (green dot/ punto verde) o el sistema de reciclado para los materiales de hojalata Kreislaufsystem Blechverpackungen Stahl GmbH (KBS). Por medio de compresión de los envases, es posible reducir los envases de acero usados, por ejemplo de tamaños hasta de 30-litre, a una tercera parte de su volumen original. El peso a granel es de casi 250KG por metro cúbico. Un contenedor A 10-m _ puede entonces llevar 3.000 kilogramos de materiales de embalaje de acero. Los envases son así utilizados de mejor forma, disminuyendo los desechos y reduciendo los derechos de reciclaje de los envases ya utilizados. El resultado: una inversión inicial baja permitirá al consumidor comercial de latas lograr no solamente ahorros importantes en espacio sino también hasta 50% de los impuestos o tasas de reciclaje.
