EMBALLAGE – the International Packaging Exhibition – will run from 22nd to 25th November 2010 at the Parc des Expositions of Paris Nord Villepinte, in France.During the Vancouver Winter Olympics, Coca-Cola launched its «PlantBottle» to contain its various beverages. A distinctive characteristic of this PET plastic bottle is that it is made with up to 30 percent of materials derived from renewable resources (i.e. sugar cane, molasses). The Atlanta-based beverage giant aims ultimately to only use packaging made with 100 percent renewable materials, and to produce 2 billion units of this new bottle by the end of 2010.
The trend towards sustainability which encompasses eco-design, the search for new materials, recycling, etc. is more than ever a major concern for the packaging industry.
For Véronique Sestrières, Exhibition Director, « The new edition EMBALLAGE 2010 will meet the economic and environmental challenges. »

2009 Packaging Observatory*
Initiated in 2005 by EMBALLAGE, in partnership with the packaging industry associations, the Packaging Observatory is a forecasting tool which puts into perspective supply and demand in the packaging sector. The 2009 edition of the “Observatoire de l’emballage” sheds light on the packaging industry’s development prospects for 2012.
*E-mail survey conducted in October 2009 among a sample of 593 packaging industry professionals (356 buyers, 153 packaging manufacturers, 84 manufacturers and distributors of packaging machines).
In 2010, the industry is gradually regaining confidence.
The findings of the survey “Observatoire de l’emballage 2009” show that buyers (user industries) are more optimistic than in 2008 (+11%). Packaging manufacturers and packaging machine manufacturers are however more cautious.
Exports should have a revitalizing effect for all sectors! The buyers’ relatively positive production prospects could be driven by exports, since nearly 57% of buyers (+ 6 points vs 2008) expect their exports to increase. Brands are looking for new markets to face the crisis, and expect to export mainly to Europe, the United States and China…
The improvement expected by user industries is far less obvious for packaging manufacturers who have a more cautious approach: half of them expect their exports to remain stable and half to grow.
Key figures 2008
1.500 exhibitors – 44% international
101.000 visitors – 36% international
400 journalists – 50% international
