THIS WEEK The IMA Group at Hispack 2009

As a world leader in automatic machines for the processing and packaging of pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, tea and coffee, IMA comes closer than anyone to understanding and satisfying your requirements. The Group’s organisational structure features four leading business areas in the main sectors:
IMA FLAVOUR   (Tea & Coffee Packaging Solutions),
IMA ACTIVE   Division (Solid Dose Solutions),
IMA LIFE   (Aseptic Processing & Filling Solutions) and
IMA SAFE   (Packaging Solutions).

At Hispack 2009 the IMA Group will exhibit new solutions for the pharmaceutical and coffee industries.
IMA FLAVOUR   offers the widest range of machines for the packaging of tea and herbs in filter bags and of coffee in filter paper pods for both regular and espresso coffee.

On show from IMA FLAVOUR  , the new CA3  , a monobloc machine capable of packing, in a modified and conditioned atmosphere, both soft and hard pods containing coffee, heatsealing them in a protective outer envelope and finally packing them into cartons at a production speed of 250 pods per minute. The CA3 has been designed and manufactured according to the highest efficiency criteria and, in particular, to an extreme flexibility while guaranteeing the best product quality on the market. The new CA3, in fact, allows the production of soft pods for the typical “American” coffee and hard pods for the traditional Espresso.

IMA ACTIVE   Division offers a complete range of machines for the process and production of solid dose products: granulation equipment, tablet press machines manufactured both by IMA and by KILIAN  , capsule filling machines, coating systems, weight checking machines for capsules and tablets as well as powder handling and washing systems manufactured by ZANCHETTA.

On show, the KILIAN Synthesis 500  , a tablet press machine designed for easy operation and cleaning. All components have been designed with smooth surface, the die table can be taken out without removing the punches, while the force feeder and the tablet discharge are hinged and can swing out for easy access and cleaning. Mechanical and compression areas are completely separated, and there is no product penetration into the lower compartment of the machine. The Synthesis is available in three models: 330, 500 and 700 reaching respectively a production speed of 225,000, 360,000 and 1,020,000 tablets/hour. WET and Wash In Place systems are also available.

Also on show, the Roto Cube Lab  , manufactured by ZANCHETTA  , a compact benchtop high shear granulator dryer for R&D purposes. It is used to process very small batch sizes (200 g – 1,000 g) carrying out the entire process, from granulation to drying of granules, in one contained bowl. Roto Lab is suitable for development of potent products and allows total batch reproducibility, ensuring high product yields. The machine guarantees a reliable monitoring of granulation and drying, an accurate detection of the process end-point and very easy cleaning operations.

IMA LIFE   offers machines for washing and sterilising pharmaceutical vials, filling and stoppering machines for aseptic environments, filling and closing machines for pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, microdosing machines for aseptic powder filling and, thanks to the acquisition of IMA EDWARDS*  , freeze-drying machinery. IMA Life also offers labellers, blowing machines, depackers and traying machines.
IMA SAFE   is the only manufacturer that offers complete primary and secondary packaging line solutions to the pharmaceutical, toiletry, cosmetic and food industries. Blister machines have speed ranges from low to super high speed (1,300 blisters/minute). Low-medium speed machines are also manufactured by the subsidiary PRECISION GEARS   (India). Tablet counting machine production includes IMA SAFE NOVA   (USA) and IMA SAFE SWIFTPACK   (UK). Tube fillers are manufactured by IMA SAFE CO.MA.DI.S.  , while horizontal and vertical cartoners are manufactured by IMA SAFE. IMA SAFE LINE   offers a complete range of end of line equipment which includes over-wrapping, shrink-wrapping, case packing and palletizing solutions.

IMA SAFE   will exhibit a complete line composed of the TR135 servodriven version  , a small and very flexible blister machine (230 blisters/minute) and the A83 EH  , the new version of the balcony style cartoner (160 cartons/minute). The main characteristics of the TR135 are: extreme versatility, small forming area working at a very high speed, continuous motion in the feeding area, rotary sealing, handling of different materials (alu-alu, PP, PVC etc ) and easy connection with all cartoners. The integrated line is completely accessible and change-over is very quick and simple, without any tools.

On show from CO.MA.DI.S.  , the C1110  , a new design tube filling machine suitable to fill and fold aluminium tubes at the real production speed of 100 tubes/minute. The C1110 is designed mainly for the pharmaceutical industry. The new design of the product dosing pump is suitable for easy and quick cleaning of the “wet parts”. Thanks to the design criteria the machine allows easy access to all four sides for maintenance operations. It features a PLC and new Touch Screen programming display (operator panel interface). The C1110 reaches a mechanical speed of 110 tubes/minute.

IMA SAFE LINE   will exhibit the MS250  , a new compact, servodriven stretch-bander designed for the pharmaceutical market. The cantilever structure and separation of the drive and production units allow the best access for service, maintenance and cleaning. Very quick size changeover, ergonomic film reel change and a production speed up to 60 bundles/minute. As an alternative to the standard Up-stacking infeed system, the MS250 can be arranged with a Pick & Place infeed system able to manage each single product or layer and collate bundles with several layers.

Finally on show from IMA SAFE LINE  , the CP28  , a new automatic case packing machine for the insertion of single and bunched boxes in standard size, pre-glued cases or trays. The machine is extremely accessible and compact thanks to its cantilever structure. The carton magazine is horizontal to facilitate loading. The carton can be sealed with adhesive tape and/or with hot-melt or vinyl glue. Size change is performed in just a few minutes without tools and adjustments are made by digital displays. The CP28 reaches a production speed of 10 cartons/minute.
